Lip Gloss, Lip Stains, Lip Oils...Oh My

As a sensitive and very symptomatic celiac, I have realized how important it is to have good quality and gluten-free options in makeup.  Having gluten-free options is a necessity, especially with lip sticks, lip gloss, lip stains, oils and so on, since these products are directly touching the mouth. (And to be extra careful, I don't use a thing that has gluten!) I am sharing actual products I have used and enjoy. I hope this post is helpful for you. For reference I was diagnosed in 2016 and have been living with Celiac Disease for years. I want to share everything I have learned since a new diagnosis can be very overwhelming. Everything I have written are my opinions and thoughts on these products below! I know I struggled with figuring out what I could consume when I was first diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I hope I can be of help on your journey.

Some of the products I am sharing are certified gluten-free, some are labeled gluten-free and some products state that they do not contain gluten. I'll be reviewing HoneyBee Gardens, Well People, ilia, Wonderskin, NYX, and e.l.f. I wanted to have a variety of brands because some of these brands are harder to find in person. It can get very difficult on a vacation to find certain lip products on the fly so I wanted to make sure I share good drug store options too!

Certified Gluten-Free Lip Gloss

There are many Certified Gluten Free Lip products available and there are always more companies coming out with certified products. I have chosen just a few of my favorites to talk about here. Let's talk about HoneyBee Gardens. There are definitely more companies like Red Apple Lipstick which is certified gluten free. Currently, I am more focused on glosses, stains, and lip oils.

Here is the the official HoneyBee Gardens Statement on gluten:

"Our products are 100% gluten free and safe for use by celiacs. Many of our products are CERTIFIED gluten free by the Gluten Intolerance Group, and we will continue the certification products for the rest of our line."

  • HoneyBee Gardens Royal Lip Elixir $11.99
  • I have tried the Buzzworthy color of this gloss and It's a gorgeous color! You can apply more to get a more saturated color.
  • Type: Gloss
  • Texture: Not sticky like some glosses, smooth and slippery
  • Scent: Light Vanilla (I enjoy it the scent)
  • Longevity: Lasts about normal time of gloss

Gluten-Free Lip Stains and Oils

Now the next products are gluten free. I have not had any issues with any of the brands or products I am sharing today. There is no Gluten-Free certfication for Well People, however, they are a very clean brand and are EWG certified. The EWG are a group that pushes industries to adopt high standards and stand against chemicals of concern! You can find more information here.

  • Well People Lush Lip Tinted Oil  $12.00
  • I have the color Wildflower and it is such a happy color! I think goes well with various skin tones.
  • Type: Lip Oil
  • Texture: Smooth, not sticky
  • Scent: Peppermint
  • Longevity: It lasts awhile but will need to reapplied when eating and drinking

  • ILIA Balmy Gloss Tinted Lip Oil $26.00
  • I have the color Saint which is a more rustic orange.  I do like this lip gloss a lot, however, at the same price you can get multiple colors of some other lip products I have listed.
  • Type: Glossy Lip Oil, not sticky
  • Scent-Fruity
  • Longevity: Lasts awhile but to get the glossy shine, I reapply often

  • Wonderskin Lip Stain $22.00
  • I have many colors of this Lip Stain. I feel like it lasts the longest of any lip product I use. However, to reapply you need to go into a restroom and apply the mask and take it off with a wet paper towel, so it isn't as easy to reapply on the fly!
  • Type: Lip Stain Mask
  • Scent: Odorless
  • Longevity: Lasts for hours without needing to reapply. I don't even need to reapply after eating or drinking.

  • NYX Smushy Matte Lip Balm $9.00
  • I have almost all the colors and I love them all. This is one of my top favorites because it has a matte blurring effect and is fairly inexpensive.
  • Type: Matte Finish, not sticky or drying
  • Scent- Fruity and every flavor is different
  • Longevity: Lasts awhile but will need to be reapplied when eating and drinking

  • e.l.f. Glow Reviver Lip Oil $9.00
  • I have various colors in these and really love them because they feel very moisturizing and are fairly inexpensive.
  • Type: Glossy but not sticky and very moisturizing
  • Scent- Unscented
  • Longevity: Lasts awhile but will need to be reapplied when eating and drinking

My top favorites are NYX Smushy matt lip balm and e.l.f Glow Revivier Lip oil because the price is really good for the quality you are getting. I do like the various scents on the NYX Smushy Lip balm. I also like how clean the ingrediants are with the HoneyBee Royal Liip Elixir, The Well People Lush tinted oil and the Ilia Balmy Gloss tinted Lip Oil. But if you are looking for the longest lasting lip stain nothing beats the longevity of Wonderskin. I wear Wonderskin when I don't plan on reapplying. I hope this helps as you continue on your gluten-free journey!
